even my maths isnt that wrong...is it?

Hello people!

I have 2 bits of news. First bit, I have filed my very first petition in eve, let me explain further..

The other night When I logged on to Astral I checked his sec status, as I normally do , and noticed it was -8.2 ..fair enough, I went off to do some ratting I returned after 20 mins having killed a battleship and escort and went afk for 20 min’s while I eat dinner.

On returning I checked my character sheet to see that rat had given me a “alleged” increase of 0.2, the standard for BS rats in null for me, which most normal people would assume would take me to -8.0?
When I checked however..-8.15? wtf?
Do tried again , same thing.
So last night I sat down and added all the sec status gains that I have apparently been given on the character sheet (I can only see back as far as the evening of the 14th) however just adding those I should have gained over 4.417 in sec status!
If you include all the rats I have slaughtered I should probably be in high sec! so I have registered a petition to look into said scandal lol.

Second bit of news is Btek is shaping up to be an awesome corp, we have a fairly active EU TZ base now, and while we are all chilled and getting on with our own odds and sods, its nice to have a active corp chat again to chat and chill with like minded souls.
The forums I built are starting to look good and soon we will start running some regular corp op’s.
If there is any players looking to learn eve or people that don’t have the time to commit to a full on corp that requires voice coms and minimum this and that, check us out, its relaxed fun that fits around how YOU want to play. Come have a chat in “Btek pub” channel.

  1. The "0.2" is a percentage, not a simple 0.2 addition gain in sec status. If only! LOL. I would never be flashy if so.

Anyways, because it's a percentage gain, the lower your sec status is the bigger the gain. You'll find that it starts slowing down when you get to -5 and above.

You'll basically have to kill more rats to get it higher and higher. For example, it takes a lot longer to get from 0.0 to 5.0 than it does from -10.0 to -5.0 . Hope that makes sense.

  2. The gain you see on your character sheet represents the percentage of the absolute mathematical distance between your current sec status and +5 (if you're doing good deeds) or -10 (if you're doing bad deeds).

Like the philosopher who never arrived because every step covered half the remaining distance to the end of the journey, the climb in sec status will similarly slow at a logarithmic rate.

  3. I inderstand it slows as your sec status grows, but if the game tells you your getting 0.2 for killing a rat you should gey o.2, either that or that section of yhe charecter sheet display is bollocks.
And i realise it is a percentage but again it should then be displaying either the percentage or the correct sec status gains. So you can effectively see your progress, as it is it may as well say you gained 4 kippers for each kill lol

  4. The 4.417 is sec status you mention is in percentage, and it is calculated as Laedy mentioned. And of course it is in 0.1-0.2 steps and all the steps should be calculated separately.
But lets assume you have -8.2 security status and you kill shitloads of rats in no time, and you gain 4.417 PERCENT gain.
    That means:
    Absolut distance to +5.0 = 5+8.2 = 13.2
Now take the 4.417% of that: 13.2 x 0.0417 = 0.55 (thats the effective security status gain)
Now add that to your sec status: -8.2+0.55 = -7.65 you should have at the end.

  5. And yes it wouldn't be a big deal to include the function into the character sheet and display the effective gain rather that the confusing percentage, that you need to calculate again for every single rat.

  6. If they did that it wouldn't be the EVE UI now would it? :p

Besides, it's not like seeing how little you gain is all that helpful anyway. Train Fast Talk, kill 1 BS per system, and understand that it's a matter of several weeks to grind back to +sec.

    (-5.5 now from -10 a week ago myself :-)

  7. I think if they put the actual amount int rather than a percentage, it would probably show as 0.0 a lot of the time.

This statement will probably come back to bite me because I haven't bothered to do a lick of math.

  8. Now that you have your answer, you can help unclog the petition queue by removing yours :P

  9. Call percentage gain x.
Distance to 'perfect' sec status is 'CurrentStatus' (C) -5.
For each gain the amount gained is:
    ( C-5 ) * x/100.

Made a quick spreadsheet showing the slow gain:

Also, you only get one gain per system per 15 minutes. Based on the best rat you killed.

  11. Oh, the core point of what I wanted to say: you can't add the gains together. A 0.2% gain twenty times is something less than a 4% gain.
