this is either idiotic or an awsome idea

Hi guy’s, I have been doing some long hard thinking over the last few days (yes it hurt) about how my pirating is going. Overall I think I am doing pretty well, I can get lots of nice kills in gate camps, I an a fairly useful member in any fleet able to bring DPS, RR or scout, and I have got quite good at solo roaming looking for a fight.
I no long see lowsec as the scary place I once did, and I’m happy to risk ships as long as it has a reason.
However there is something I’m becoming less satisfied with, The rabbits as a whole seem to be going through a lazy lull. Not that we arn’t active but we always seem to be camping instead of going out roaming looking for kills.
Now camping certainly has its place in piracy, it gets some great kills and is a good source of income however it can be bloody boring and done to often in the same spot people start getting wise, you even get bigger fleets come looking to bust up your camp. I have heard many of the rabbits complaining but when you suggest getting out on a roam a lot of them seem to busy. That makes me sad.

Instead of whining about it tho I am going to try to help fix the problem. I have for the last couple of months had a purifier sitting in my hanger, I can fly it, but lack the torp skills and the cash to fit it properly. I am going to make getting this ship up and running my “mission”.

stealth bomber

Now im looking for fitting advice as I don’t have a huge amount of experience with bombers, but I intend to use it to probe out ships and warp in cloaked to provide my fleet with a warp in then, help add DPS and tackle as my fleets land.

The fit I have in mind is…

Low- DCII
Low- 200mm plate
Low –ballistic control II

Mid – 1 MN MWD
Mid – Warp disruptor II
Mid – Web II

High – “Arablast” siege launcher
High – “Arablast” siege launcher
High – “Arablast” siege launcher
High – expanded probe launcher
High – covert ops cloak.

Rig – small trimark
Rig – Small trimark

I am open to any suggestions to improve this fit for what I have in mind. Once I have acquired (I am currently skint other than my poker fund) the fittings and finished training the skills in a couple of weeks I will be trying to get fleets out of mixed consistency with the idea they hop to a safe while I probe out mission runners or the unwary waiting at safes and get a warp in for the fleet, once the fleet is in warp to me, I decloak apply DPS and tackle and in theory the fleet arrives before I go pop?

I Think this will take my piracy to the next level, I can still camp when needed for money or solo roam in my vengeance when I crave that buzz, but this will add another string to my bow and maybe help motivate some rabbits to get roaming again.

  1. Your planned fit is spot on for the role you are talking about. However, an SB is not much good at the tackle role, so you would be better concentrating on missile DPS rather than waste slots on tank in the lows and rigs. You'll just have to depend on not being targetted once the smack-down starts.

Train the supplementary missile skills too, and torp specialisation, for that extra smack with the T1 torp launchers.

  2. Shame on you for not taking an interest in another eve blogger who posted about this very topic only last week.

Everything you need to know about SB's right here: http://amerrylifeandashortone.blogspot.com/2010/08/stealth-bomber-guide.html

  3. I have to agree. The SB guide posted above is amazing, and I heartily recommend it to everyone. There is a lull at the moment because it's Summer in the northern hemisphere, and EVE always gets quiet around now. As for people always gatecamping, it drives me insane, and I would suggest that you learn to FC small gangs, but you can't do that without being able to be on voice comms really. :p

I DISAGREE WITH THIS: DCII is going to give you 60% resists to your hull whi has what? 400-500 points? worthless IMO.

200MM plate will only slow you down

BCII I can understand...for the torps...why not an inertial stab to help you align and get the hell away quicker?

Survivability in this ship is how fast you can drop you ordanace and get the hell out of dodge...if you get targetted your already dead.

  5. I always offer to take roams out jarek , and im always on comms just not always talking lol, trouble is when i offer or put a fleet ad up for a roam it gets ignored, yet put a camp fleet up and we get 30 ships!

And i dint miss the huide you wrote it was excellent i was just wondering if the set up would differ using it as a probe/scout ship for a fleet of battleceuisers opppsed to a sb fleet or solo hunter?

  6. "If you get targeted you're already dead."

That should be the mantra of every single Stealth Bomber pilot.

  7. I second the advice recommending the SB guide. Re-reading your post I think I understand your desire for buffer but you should maximize your speed/ability to GTFO once that second point is called.

  8. The Purifier really shines when it's employed as a 'Bomb Truck' in Nullsec. Leveraging the largest cargohold of all the Stealth Bombers and the 'extra' low slot, it's possible to get a Purifier up to carrying 12 bombs.

For Lowsec rampaging, I can't help but be biased towards the Manticore. The extra mid slot and higher cpu than the Nemesis permit the wonderful midslot layout of dual Sensor Boosters with Scanres scripts for the fast lock, and dual target painters to help kick those torps into the serious damage range. 2 BCU II's in the lows, and a Warhead Calefaction and Bay Loading Accelerator rig. With Overheated Arbalest launchers, you should be kicking out a couple of very impressive volleys in short order.

  9. Once you probe out a target, rather than you decloak and tackle, have one or more inties in fleet warp to you and have them apply tackle. Other suitable fast tackle works too. But let them do the job they are specialists for. Once they are in warp to you, you burn off a distance so they don't decloak you, then you decloak and apply DPS once they have tackle and the target's attention.

  10. Feel might be partially to blame for the low a bit there to astral. Know you asked me several times, but going trough some EVE burnout phaze and instead of just walking away for a few days to get the cravings to go out there kill shit, i log in day after day and just go start up somthing easiest and requiering least of me. As for the bomber, really dont fly them much, but how would a manti work wth some ecm mod and 1 ecm amp in low work giving you an extra chance of a succesfull jam maybe, while keeping mobile with a point till rest of the troops arrive?? Know ECM isn't any good outside ships bonused for it, but still...just a thought.

  11. Not a good SB fit tbh. As others have said, you need stealth, you are not a tackler. The element of surprise is what gets you kills and holding range while the opponent has to close range is crucial.

Personally fly a manticore, fitted similarly to Manasi, but I use 2 x damps with range scripts instead of the TD + Damp. The Painter is crucial as is the MWD. If you can't target fast enough by all means swap a damp for a booster, but I've never needed it. Use the velocity rig and the ROF rig, rather than two velocity rigs (if torp skills are good enough to give at least 50k range)

  13. I've got to agree with Manasi on this. If you're locked its too late.

Stealth bomber tactics rely on being able to deliver DPS and disappear before there is any response. Tackle on a stealth bomber is only useful against something that can't shoot back.
